There are a few options available when referring to search engines there is Google, Bing, Yahoo, or Ask. The role of a search engine is to provide Internet users a tool for answering their questions, locating data, or finding a business. Each search engine is slightly different but the main goals of any effective search engine is to provide Internet users with relevant results, current results, and easy to understand results.
Today, Google is the most popular search engine and they account for almost 70% of the search traffic on the Internet today. Google is holding the top position so it only makes sense to follow the guidelines that Google suggests in order to grow your business the right way online. In the past there were many scams or questionable techniques that marketers used so their business could place higher in the SERP but Google put an end to that. Now Internet marketing is all about sharing useful content and helping the consumer. Below I will briefly list the the areas that you should focus on when taking on the world of Internet marketing. I will follow up to this post with a more detailed post on each topic.
Content
Make sure all your Internet marking efforts are focused on creating content that is unique and relevant. You want a different perspective and or approach when sharing information. Google loves fresh content and so do your consumers. It will not benefit your SERP if you have no new information to offer the consumers.
Keywords
Are the words or phrases that the consumer use when they preform a query in a search engine. It is usually a phrase in question form. You want to think like your consumer and strategically place keywords within your website copy so consumers can find your business when they are looking online. Using the correct keywords requires some detailed research but it is an important step to being found online.
Sharing your content over different mediums
Consumers are all different and no two people learn the same way. A great option that the Internet gives a business owner is the many different mediums that can be used to share content to their audience. You can blog, write articles, use video, infographics, slide shows, or a podcast to reach your consumer. Ultimately the medium that you decide to use all depends on your audience and your business. As a marketer you should try to incorporate the different learning styles into your content so that your audience is consistently engaged with your brand.
Social Media
It is becoming a necessity for a brand that is trying to build an online presence. Social media is “word of mouth” marketing taken to the next level. You can connect with and display what makes your business unique on a social networking site and build a following that is loyal to your brand.
Link Building
You should reach out to power players in your niche. Offer to guest blog or write an article in order to get links back to your website. Having links point toward your site can make a huge difference in your SERP. This shows Google that you are producing interesting and relevant content if other websites are willing to link to your site.
Each of the 5 areas listed above have to be done correctly to be effective online. As an Internet marketer you should think like your ideal customer and make everything you do focused around their wants and needs. The Internet should be used to form meaningful relationships with your audience then the sales will come.
